I just finished reading this book and am considering following the program. I found the book to be very interesting. I have been formally training in Tai Chi and QiGong for three years and I know I have some problems with energy flow, presumably due to past health issues and missing body organs. I'm hoping to be able to make some progress with correcting my energy flow. My only real complaint about the book is that the pictures and descriptions for the all important QiGong exercises are not enough for me to know I am doing them correctly. I bought the DVD on the author's website, and the darn thing cost $30, which is just too much money for what it is. I really think the DVD should be sold with the book, or available for a significantly less expensive price.
Without doubt, this book changed my life. Two years after first reading it I am still practicing the ten simple qigong steps and eating according to the dietary recommendations. In addition, I have delved into the world of Chinese medicine by visiting a well trained acupuncturist and herbalist regularly and reading other books on Chinese medicine and qigong. This book put me on the right path to solving numerous health concerns that Western doctors could not help me with. Unfortunately, I did not give up my extra weight baggage, but I have begun to understand how my psychology and physiology need to work together to become healthier.
I did this program several years ago. There is a six-week cleanse, which is followed by eating a simple whole food diet, which I stayed with for about six months, along with the chi kung exercises. I also used Master Lu's clinic, which included acupuncture and herbal supplements. Throughout the entire time, I only lost about twenty pounds, but I stayed with the program--and one day I looked in the mirror and my body had been transformed--almost overnight! My belly was gone; my water weight was gone; cellulite gone--without losing any more weight! It took tremendous work--spending almost two hours a day doing the exercises and another prescribed meditation--but the transformation was miraculous. Unfortunately, life happens--and after some rather horrid experiences, I found myself on yet another food binge, stopped the chi kung and ultimately put back the 20 lbs. and then some. The program DID work miracles for me... eventually..., but that means eliminating processed and unhealthy foods and finding ways to deal with emotional angst that do not include food binges. I plan on doing the six-week cleanse and chi kung exercises again, as it does work. The chi kung movements are designed to open meridians, and it's the only chi kung I've done that I actually enjoy doing. Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet and there are no quick fixes. The secret is staying with it, as with anything.
I had pretty much cut out meat anyway, so it wasn't too much of a leap for me to do this diet, and it's really helped my allergies (along with acupuncture treatments.) But I have found the diet to be very easy on my gut, and the walnut and fruit breakfast lasts me a lot longer than my old yogurt-and-fruit-with a few nuts. Now that we know the easiest way to keep the right flora in your gut is just to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, the way of eating espoused here makes a whole lot of sense. Learning to do chigong is essential, though, to keep the chi up, and particularly as the body ages. The movements here are simple and easy to learn in a few tries.
After purchasing this book and having it for sometime, I am embarking on my 6 week journey.I have been doing Qigong for approximately 18 months now and have seen good results.I look forward to these specific exercises to pull pounds and inches off my body. Some reviewers have focused on the diet or the exercises. I believe for this to be successful you need both.I plan on supplementing congee if i feel hungry.Stay tuned for weekly updates.Update: I promised weekly updates but was so immersed I didn't. Let's fast food cravings GONE, cravings for sweets GONE, Weight loss yes 25+ lbs, inches YES, i'm wearing clothes I haven't in years. I'm feeling great and people say I am looking great. be advised while on the program you will have ups and downs. This I am told is the healing. 4 more days until my 6 days are up. I believe the author is truthful when he says you may not eat the food u did before when you are done. Your body knows what it likes.P.S. try the baked apples they are heavenly
I purchased this book because I read the reviews, and liked what I read about the book. There are 10 exercises that the author recommends for weight loss and other physical advantages called "The Dragon's Way." Well, I've been doing them sporadically, but felt the benefits "immediately!" Then, something unexpectedly happened: I experienced the much spoken of "Kundalini Rising." Kudalini Rising is when a swell of energy that lies at the base of your back (spine) starts moving upward, along your spine, giving you an extreme burst of energy, moving all the way up to your crown chakra. It was too incredible! What happened was, as I did "The Dragon's Way" exercises, I opened some meridians, making the Kundalini Rising possible. I'll never forget that experience! Am trying to invoke it again!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!! Even beginners will benefit tremendously from it if they follow the exercises correctly. The health benefits are magnificent. And YES, it does reduce cravings, an appetite for snacking, and the need for junk food -- in a very healthy way! And...I haven't even followed his dietary recommendations yet!If you purchase this book, it will more than pay for itself. You will not regret it!Chicago Exerciser
